For once, I
ventured outside of my brunch comfort zone of Brooklyn, into the lower east
side of Manhattan. Having read awesome reviews of Essex, my friends and I were
very excited. If coming here be sure to make a reservation, two weeks prior we
tried making a reservation for Saturday on a Wednesday and were not so kindly
told that no tables were available. Fast forward two weeks later and we finally
made it in!
We had a
large party and the staff was very accommodating. We were even allowed to start
ordering drinks from the bar while we waited for our whole party to arrive.
Once seated our waiter came over almost immediately with a round of Mimosas.
With this Brunch you have the option to make it bottomless drinks for $34.99 +
tax and the option of Mimosas, Screwdrivers or Bloody Mary’s. Of course our whole table did bottomless
drinks! The mimosas were good, but mostly orange juice, which is fine if the
waiter always keeps our glasses full; however, the more crowded the restaurant
became the less the waiter came around.
Unfortunately,
I wasn’t impressed with the food menu. The only item that appealed to me was
the Manchego Macaroni & Cheese
with side of chicken apple sausage and adding lobster for $3. We ended up
ordering a bunch of different dishes and sharing them amongst ourselves. Sadly
they were out of The Southern dish
(biscuit, sausage patties, eggs, sausage gravy) by 12:30pm, a few from my party
wanted that dish.
Bottomless 3
Food 2.5
Service 3
Overall Experience 3
Aside from
discovering how yummy macaroni and cheese with lobster is, Essex Restaurants
bottomless brunch was mediocre and unfortunately, didn’t live up to the
hype.
XOXO,
Brunch Chic
